FSBO Showings

The alternative path to selling a home can be something of an enigma. For Sale By Owner properties are cropping up everywhere - perhaps as a no-vote to the high costs of real estate agents out there looking out for number 1.

Though I'm new to the FSBO selling arena, I have found that good old-fashioned marketing can do wonders in a down market. In just 3 weeks, we've had 2 real leads. Sounds low; however, when you consider that we've not paid too much for a listing on realtor.com or in signage (road), this is a hopeful sign when economic indicators point downward. The site, forsalebyowner, has been an asset to our selling endeavors. Site stats show promise but more leads are coming in from realtor.com - possible through forsalebyowner.com. An ad campaign on Facebook didn't net the results I was hoping for; google ads might be another ploy if we get desperate...but we're not (thank goodness).

Another friend indicated that it takes 6 months in a down market, so stick it out. And, that's alright. It gives us plenty of time to hunt for another property to buy in our (hopefully) near future.

Moving Along

Another feat in this chapter of our lives. The decision to sell the house with the goal of moving to Ashe County, NC. The kids are excited but expressed sorrow of moving away from friends and a life they've always known. We're excited, as parents, too -- but we're not sure what the future will hold.

We'd like to relocate our family to a community where simple ideals reign - where community means community in a small community...where folks wave from their front porches, from their tractor in the field, or from the other side of that yellow line -- and waving out of sheer genuiness (and not because you crossed the yellow line)!

I believe it's out there -- so here's to a genuine wave that lifts up a prayer that we're participating in God's Will for our lives!

Where to go from here

Since 2007, we've taken 2 cross-country trips, 2 trips to Texas, and 1 to Western North Carolina...in a car packed with 5 people, two tents with associated camping gear and supplies, and hopeful dreams.

We're not the type to care about fame or fortune. We just care to find a place to set our family's future roots and call that home...on a homestead. I can just imagine a homestead with a few head of bison, a coop full of laying hens, a pasture full of sheep, harvesting enough food to feed our family (plus one...you just never know), room to romp and explore without subdivision do's and do not's, and enough timber to last a lifetime of good fires. All this in a down-to-earth community full of cheer and wide smiles and common sense.

We've found an area where it might just be possible. It is time to make a decision on how & when. We've got the why down pat.

Prayerfully making that decision - and hopefully soon.

Blogging for the First Time

A leap forward into the next generation of online publishing...let's see if I can keep up with technology and hopefully share our adventures with a good laugh and humble heart. Hang on, there will probably be a few loud screams of frustration (or regret) before I get the hang of this.
